What parent has not heard that question ? Two of our young guests each found an Eastern box turtle . And showed them to Everyone. This gentle creature has a shell of black or brown with spots of yellow, orange or red. They can live 30 to 60 years and are not great explorers, preferring the woodlands thy were born in. Eastern turtles can retain water better than aquatic turtles which make them perfect residents in the periodic droughts of Middle Tennessee.
Unfortunatey, the turtles “mysteriously escaped” during the overnight hours. So the issue of “coming home” disappeared with the dawn.
